Chapter 5 Short Answer

 1. Name one new type of software you discovered in your research most likely to be included in a digital classroom. Tell us about it.

A software I discovered was Kahoot. This platform is for teachers to make quizzes and reviews for students to take and talk about as a class. It takes a poll of what the students answered. Students can also make their own Kahoots for review purposes to share with peers. The teacher is able to see the level of understanding for each student. There is also ghost mode which a student can take the kahoot and later on after learning can compete against themselves so they can personally see the improvement they have made throughout a subject.

2. Identify one new type of administrative software and describe how it can be applied to teaching and learning tasks.

I really like Google Classroom for the versatility of the software. Students are able to have multiple classrooms to access, a main page for assignments they need to do, collaborate with peers, and look at resources provided by the teacher. The layout is very user friendly, simple, and encouraging. Teachers are able to provide students with the opportunity to learn at a self-pace and work with students one on one to provide extra help.

3. Name a new type of academic software that you discovered and identify the role in teaching and learning.

A new one I discovered is Quizlet. Students are able to use this to make their own flash cards, practice quizzes, and learning games. Teachers are also able to make their own page of subjects with their own flashcards, quizzes, and learning games. I think this is a great way to encourage students that learning can be anywhere. They are able to access it on their phone and do a game or click through flash cards. Teachers are able to see who uses the tools and how they do.

4. Locate 2 new available online tools and/or apps that can be used for teaching and learning and explain their benefits.

Poll everywhere and pear deck are great tools for the classroom. Poll everywhere is a great tool to make an exit question for the class or just check general understand in a less threatening way for a student. Students can feel confident with their answer and that their classmates are not going to know who said what but teachers are able to see true feed back of understanding. Pear deck is a great interactive way of teaching with technology with real time feed back for teachers.

5. Explain the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating software into the digital classroom.

Challenges of the integrating software into a digital classroom could be budget, social interaction, and accessibility. A lot of quality softwares require payments and if the school distract does not provide the software that can come out of the teachers budget for the year, which could restrict the opportunities of exposing students to different softwares. Being a digital classroom is great for keeping information in one place and keeping students who are gone in the loop of what is going on but face to face social interaction is important for developmental growth in students. Lastly it is great if a school distract is able to provide students with computers at school but the availability of the internet can fluctuate between students in their home life and not every student could have abscess to the internet outside of school.
